About the event

Event Summary

Geotechnical investigations require engineering judgment amidst uncertainty and significant legal responsibility for all construction industry players. This presentation will explore how subsurface uncertainty is identified, allocated, communicated, and ultimately managed. Geotechnical investigations interplay with contractual risk allocation in a way that is important for all geotechnical engineers to understand, regardless of whether they work for a contractor, consultant, or owner. Drawing on practical project experience from an engineering and dispute resolution perspective, the presentation will examine common failure points in geotechnical investigations, such as scope definition, data interpretation, and reporting language for reliance by owners and contractors. Attendees will gain insight into recurring themes in geotechnical disputes, with some practical examples.
