The 2024 CGS-SOS Graduate Student Competition will include representatives from the following Southern Ontario Universities: Metropolitan, Toronto, Waterloo; York, Western and McMaster. A representative from each University will make an oral presentation of up 15 minutes followed by Q&A.

The CGS-SOS will hold the 2024 CGS-SOS Graduate Student Competition. The competition will include representatives from the following Southern Ontario Universities: Metropolitan, Toronto, Waterloo; York, Western and McMaster. A representative from each University will make an oral presentation of up to 15 minutes which will be followed by a five minute question-and-answer period.
A panel of judges from industry will assess the presentations, and cash prizes will be awarded to recognize the best presentations and participation in the competition. The top presenter will receive $500 and registration for GeoMontreal 2024; the second-place presenter will be awarded $300; and the third-place presenter will be awarded $200. All presentations will be recorded and also, sent to the CGS National to represent the Southern Ontario Section in nationwide competition.
Evaluation for the CGS-SOS Graduate Student Competition will be based on the following criteria: geotechnical content (Materials and Design) and interest (60%), oral and visual quality of presentation (30%), and performance during the question-and-answer period (10%).
